WATER COLOR 2007 THE SKY HORSES FLYING ON THE HEAVEN

SKY HORSES CONCEPT

As a multi-cultural artist and descendant of nomads Ifeel a responsibility to give people a chance to appreciate the particular construction of the Mongolian yurt from an aesthetic perspective, in order to fill in a gap in our appreciation of aesthetics.

The "Skylight Series" captures my attitude towards life and art, since, as a son of the grasslands my artistic inspiration comes from the high plains of Mongolia.

The skylight, besides bringing light into a Mongolian yurt, also has a spiritual meaning: on the vast Mongolian plains the Mongolian nomads communicate with the heavens through the skylight of their yurts, with the constallations as their interlocutors.

There are two meanings to the series of Skylight pieces. First a feeling for the heavens, for the universe--for nature that is beyond the conquering powers of mankind. The second is the horse. The domesticated four-legged horse became the primary means of transport of two-legged man. The speed of the horse saved many a man from disaster, thereby causing the horse to be a universal object of appreciation.

Chaolun Baatar graduated from the Beijing Central Academy of Art in the oil painting department and continued studying and teaching there. He has exhibited his work throughout the world dozens of times, obtaining many accolades in the process. From the 1970s Baatar has undertaken detailed studies of the construction of the Mongolian yurt, transferring the results of his studies to his installation art and earthworks, filling a previously blank space in aesthetics. He uses the skylight of the Mongolian yurt as his inspiration for many different forms of artistic expression, including multimedia works with music that have garnered attention throughout the art world.
